We recognise that each volunteer is an individual and we work hard to understand what’s important to you about volunteering so we can match you to the right role.

 

All volunteers are supported by the Volunteer Co-ordinator as well as the team around them and there are regular opportunities to review how volunteering is working for you.

 

We offer a full induction, ongoing training and a range of opportunities to get involved. We are also flexible in how we work, so can often offer opportunities to match your availability.

At Lighthouse we believe that volunteering brings great benefit to the women and children we support, our staff team and also our volunteers.


What can you do?

 

There are lots of ways in which we ask volunteers to support our work. These include helping our busy office to run smoothly – welcoming clients & doing general admin, supporting drop-in groups, helping us provide childcare to all ages of children and fundraising.

 

We are looking for volunteers who are good at talking to people and have a positive and non-judgemental attitude. We welcome volunteers with a range of skills and experience, but most important to us is that individuals have the motivation to get involved and make a difference.

 

You will find a range of volunteer roles described here that are the typical vacancies that arise. However, we are always interested to hear from volunteers with something different to offer.

Donations Volunteer

 

this role involves sorting the donations of new & pre-loved times, toiletries and food that are generously given by supporters of Lighthouse, ensuring they reach the women and children that need them.  It can also include using internet sites to sell items.

 

Office & Admin Volunteer

 

You will be working as part of the team in our busy office at the Community Women’s Centre – welcoming visitors, taking calls, arranging courses, updating the database, and other general admin duties.

 

‘Drop-in’ Group Organiser

 

You will work with another volunteer to run a weekly group, making clients feel welcome, chatting to them and organising activities.

 

Fundraising & Events Volunteer

 

This can involve a range of activities including taking part in a collection, running a stall at an event, supporting the planning of a larger event or organising your own fundraising event.

 

Childcare Volunteer

 

This role is based at the refuge where you will work with the Children’s Services Team to support play sessions with children of all different ages.

 

The ’10 Minute’ Volunteer

 

This is for those people who would love to volunteer but find life is too busy to fit in a regular commitment.  Being a ’10 Minute’ Volunteer is about doing quick actions that raise awareness or promote fundraising events. It will include actions such as sharing a facebook post, putting up a poster at work or in your local community, asking for a raffle prize or letting us know of any fundraising opportunities you spot. It may not seem like much but the combined effort of our ’10 Minute’ Volunteers makes a fantastic difference.
